Wesley's 32nd birthday trip

For his 29th birthday we went to the Kennedy School in Portland. 31st birthday was at the Grand Lodge in Forest Grove. This year we went to the Edgefield in Troutdale. We enjoyed all three McMenamin's, but I think this one is our favorite so far.

Highlights @ Edgefield:
- Cracked Pots garden art show. Garden art made entirely out of recycled or found materials.
- Huge soaking pool! And there was even a bar at poolside =)
- Ruby's Spa, which is where Wesley enjoyed a massage.
- Brewery, winery and distillery on the grounds. They also use grapes grown right on the property to make their wine. We did a wine tasting (just $1 for 6 wines!) and brought home bottles of the White Rabbit and Riesling.
- Live music. They have an ampitheater where acts like Death Cab for Cutie, Lynrd Skynrd, Chris Isaak, Sheryl Crow, Ringo Starr and Billy Idol play. We didn't actually attend a concert while we were there, but there was live music in the winery every night.

The Edgefield is also less than 30 minutes away from downtown Portland, so Wes and I went to the Portland Classical Chinese Garden. It was beautiful and completely unexpected. It's tucked away so that you would never know that such a lush garden was sitting in the middle of Chinatown. After wandering around the garden, we popped into several different shops. Wes has a thing for dragons since he was born in the year of the dragon. What better place to find dragons than in Chinatown? After making a few purchases we stopped in at Louie's for dim sum. Mmm... dim sum...

Overall it was a great time! Ate a lot of good food. Drank a lot of good beer and wine. Relaxed a lot in the soaking pool =) Just my kind of vacation.
